My research focuses on how communities manage shared natural resources in the face of environmental change. I study small-scale irrigation systems as social-ecological systems, examining how resource scarcity, inequality, and institutional arrangements influence cooperation among resource users. Using a combination of agent-based modeling and field experiments, I investigate how governance mechanisms, social norms, and social capital shape collective action in managing common-pool resources and investing in shared infrastructure. Through this work, I aim to better understand how institutions can support sustainable and resilient resource management under climate change.
